Summary of Sources of Investment Information

There are many places to go for investment information, from federal government databases to the corner bookstore. Investment books, company reports, business news media, the Internet, and investor associations provide both research resources and practical advice. There are also scores of investment advisor newsletters that you may subscribe to that provide useful information on what to look for to meet your own investment objectives. Where to start depends on the kind of information you need and how much you are willing to pay for it.

Keep in mind that each different source provides a different kind of information. If you are looking for background, books and historical sources are good. If you need advice, anecdotal sources are better. If you are doing your own analysis, nothing beats company reports and government filings. If you do not have time to do all the research, you may want to rely upon a professional advisory service.

The more you know about investing and investments, the better the investor you’ll become.
